Kiwi Innovation Sparks International Interest
New Zealand footwear manufacturer Kumfs shoes has sparked international interest with its revolutionary new footwear range – the Y-Series sandals.
Kumfs managing director, Andrew Robertson, said the Y-Series sandals are unique as they are the first fashionable open toed sandals that allows for orthotics to be easily inserted into them.
“As far as I’m aware nothing of this style and calibre has been made before – it’s a case of kiwi ingenuity at its very best.”
“We believe that the new Y-Series is the answer for many women who have always felt that they have had to choose between the shoes that they want and the shoes that they need.”
The sandals generated widespread interest during their first public showing at the recent World Shoes Associate (WSA) fair in Las Vegas – the largest of its kind in North America.
“Kumfs had a record number of visitors to its booth. The Americans were really impressed with our Y-You, Yahoo and Yippee styles which all form part of the new Y-Series range,” Andrew said.
“The general feedback was that the shoes looked fashionable, were available in great colours, fitted well and felt good to wear.”
He said visitors to the booth were surprised that such a fashionable looking sandal could offer solid foot support, allow for orthotics, and be available in such a wide range of sizes.
“We’ve had a lot of requests from customers wanting us to make orthotic-capable sandals that are stylish - something that up-to-now has been difficult to achieve.”
With a wedge heel to give the impression of height, yet a gentle pitch, the Y-Series achieves a fashionable look and incorporates the latest summer colours.
The Y-Series sandals can take all forms of orthotics including sizeable, full-length and forepart orthotics. The shoes also have a rocker sole and excellent arch and underfoot support designed for easy walking, and cupping of the heel to provide more natural support.
The Y-Series sandals also impressed leading international podiatrist, Professor Keith Rome, during a recent visit to New Zealand to meet with Kumfs.
“Professor Rome was of the same opinion as the people who visited our booth in Las Vegas – that the Y-Series range is a pioneer in its field,” Andrew said.
